the rain in spain falls mainly on the plane

Lucky we aren't particularly fussed with beach holidays as today would not have been much to our liking. As it was, a relaxing final full day on the Costa del Sol did allow us to take a nose at the resort style holiday that Bryn yearns for and we have put on the backburner in recent times.

No rush to leave the Airbnb, a continental breakfast as we are on the continent, but more to do with the fact we are trying to use all the fresh stuff in the fridge before our departure.

Having run down to Fuengirola a few times, a more leisurely stroll today in relatively mild conditions. It was a bit warmer by the time we hit the boardwalk which became our unofficial parkrun for the day.  My running legs almost out of gas, and the weaving in and out, stop - start nature of this run was hard work, but short, and rewarded by throwing my over heated self into the sea straight after.

Last part of warm weather training

Bryn and I dusted the sand off our feet and wandered through the back streets to find a bar.  Bought him a legal pint (in Spain) and we watched a bit of football.

The girls joined us and we looked for a couple of Auf Wiedersehen locations, the original Office Bar now boarded up, so lucky Bryn and I found a working one!  No villains in sight, just a few old northern expats sticking their euro each way on the gee gees, and moaning that there were no English papers because it was Good Friday yesterday!  Wonder if they voted for Brexit?

We spent a couple of hours in a Sports Bar playing cards, having a couple of pints and watching some Premier League Football.  The weather outside a lot cooler than in the UK apparently, the sort of irony that will keep the BBC forecasters happy.  Not normally that bothered, but not ideal for the designated beach day!

We continued to float around the backstreets, came across a tapas bar, had a couple of drinks and a variety of foodstuffs for all 4 of us for 25 Euros. This is the sort of experience that puts a smile on my face, digging out the cheap and cheerful options.

Caught a taxi back to our digs, and enjoyed a quiet final few hours, reading and relaxing. Second book of the week Cider with Roadies by Stuart Maconie.  Quite a lightweight laugh and all for the princely sum of £1 There is a theme developing here, likely to be shattered tomorrow when we return our battered car. Ah well, dems the breaks.

Our final full day brought us a bit more sun, but not really enough for a proper 'beach day'. We walked down the big hill - most likely for the final time - and into Fuengirola. I'd worn my running clothes, but after some dithering down at the beach, I decided against running. I just didn't really fancy it, which is fine. Even though we're on holiday, we still always get a good bit of exercise done, through running and walking.

The parents went off on their plods along the front, whilst Bryn and I set up base camp on the sand. The sun was still out at this point, but as the day changed from morning to afternoon, it bade farewell, and faded into the clouds. I got a nice bit of reading done, and paddled in the sea a little bit, but I didn't go in properly, like I'd originally hoped to.

The boys had gone to find a bar somewhere, so eventually mum and I packed up and went to bar number 1. We weren't there for too long, and using google maps, found another little bar/lounge where we settled for a few hours. We had some drinks and some tasty toasties, and played some card games, which was all good fun.

Once we were reaching the edge of outstaying our welcome, we whipped out google maps one more time and found a little tapas bar on one of the smaller streets of Fuengirola. The food was great - I tried some paella, as well as some garlic potatoes and other things. I've really enjoyed trying new foods this week, especially the Spanish ones.

Rather than walking back to the house, we hopped in the taxi and were home in no time, where we started to pack our things up for tomorrow. We also enjoyed a little bit of dessert - some sort of fruity cake to end the evening.
